Every summer, violinist Gil Morgenstern, Artistic Director of the Broyhill Chamber Ensemble and Reflections Series International, assembles several of the nation’s most exciting and acclaimed chamber musicians for an exquisite concert series embracing a diverse repertoire of chamber music works. The series opens on July 6, with additional concerts on July 20, 23 (with Rioult Dance NY), and 31.

July 20 Program: Music: So What’s the Story? Part II

Aubade Lointane – George Enescu
Wedding Day at Troldhaugen – Edvard Grieg
Riconoscenza per Goffredo Petrassi – Elliott Carter
Sonata for Violin and Piano – Leoš Janáček
String Quartet in F Major, Op. 96, “American Quartet” – Antonin Dvořák

Gil Morgenstern, violin
Nurit Pacht, violin
Kathryn Lockwood, viola
Ole Akahoshi, cello
Rieko Aizawa, piano

Part II of the series will feature works that are reflective of composers’ personal narratives. Leos Janacek's Sonata for Violin and Piano is a composition whose catalyst was the agitation and passionate emotions of World War I. Edvard Grieg’s lighthearted Wedding Day at Troldhaugen depicts the "congratulations and best wishes" that are bestowed on newlyweds by wedding guests. Elliott Carter’s Riconoscenza per Goffredo Petrassi presents a trio of independent voices, all in a work for solo violin, and Antonin Dvořák’s ever-popular American String Quartet reflects the composer’s encounter with nature while on vacation in Spillville, Iowa.
