Johann Radmann is a young and idealistic public prosecutor who takes an interest in the case of Charles Schulz, a former Auschwitz extermination camp commander, who is now teaching at a school in West Berlin. Radmann is determined to bring Schulz to justice, but the horrors of the past and the hostility shown toward his work make it nearly impossible for him to find his way through the maze and to the truth.
