Rosen-Schaffel Competition

for Young and Emerging Artists

Coronavirus Information

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the decision has been made to postpone the 10th Annual Rosen-Schaffel Competition to July 2021. All applications submitted during the spring of 2020 will be honored for the 2021 competition, with the option for applicants to resubmit with updated materials. The eligibility will also be extended to 3-years post graduate to accommodate any applicants that planned to enter this year, but would otherwise have been ineligible in 2021.

First Place Affiliate Studio: $1000

*In addition to a cash prize, the First Place Winner will also receive an inviitation to perform a complete concerto or comparable work during An Appalachian Summer Festival's 2020 season.

The festival, in partnership with the Hayes School of Music, proudly presents the 10th anniversary season of the highly acclaimed Rosen-Schaffel Competition for Young & Emerging Artists, known for the pivotal role it has played in launching the careers of some of our state’s most promising young artists. In the final live round of the competition, presented during An Appalachian Summer Festival, a panel of prominent symphony conductors will select a First, Second, and Third Place winner from a group of finalists selected via a blind adjudication process during the spring. The competition’s audience will also select an Audience Choice Award winner.
